Chapter 5 A Freedom from Cages
Time: Unbeknownst
Place: Kyoto
Birds flew from their perches on the wires into the sky, as above them a Garganta opened. Out stepped Sui, accompanied by Kawaii at her right and the other 2 Gillians behind them. Kawaii, rather bored at this point, had been flickering her tongue in and out and rattling her tail impatiently.
“Oh goody! My favorite time in the world of the living; sun set!” Sui announced happily, looking into the distance at the blazing sun that was falling behind the trees of Mt. Fuji. The colors had decided to blend themselves nicely with that of the purple hue of the mountain, and like many times before, it made Sui’s eyes sparkle in delight.
“So?” Kawaii hissed as her forked tongue flickered out. “What’s so good about sun down?”
By now, Sui had about lost her mind in joy and was leaping about. “Because, it is when I can start hunting; when I am wide-awake~!” Being a cat was fun for Sui; she could nap during the daylight, which annoyed her, and play once the sun set. Sui loved coming to the world of the living during sunset. There were so many humans to find, humans to chase, humans… to eat.
Brigon stepped out of the shadows of the Garganta, and watched the other 4 Gillian silently as they found their place in the skies of the world of the living. The bars of the Garganta slowly close themselves like normal, leaving not the slightest trace of the cracked open sky behind.
Brigon chuckled, but to the rest of the group it sounded as if the gates of hell were opening. Kawaii liked the sound of it, and soaked in the richness of the laughter, as she had always wondered what hell would be like. Nevertheless, she was glad she was forced into being a hollow. She could be free to do what she wanted and was not constrained to the strict rules of the souls in Soul Society.
“What are you waiting around for? Go eat already!!” Brigon yelled, as he launched himself downward into the heart of Kyoto. Brigon enjoyed the wind of freedom, gliding on it, away from the prison’s sky that had once been his longing. Now he just wanted to be free of the rest of the hollows. To hunt and raid, as he pleased, not just allowed to play when there was a war. Not that he minded the war. Just means Shinigami to eat as well, he thought to himself.
Sui looked to Kawaii who nodded and the 2 female hollows shot after Brigon. Ckriss and Vanga didn’t follow but went separate ways. Ckriss to the beaches, while Vanga floated around not doing much of anything but watching for easy pickings on the north end of town; which he found few of.
Sui and Kawaii howled in rage firing off Bala and tearing through buildings like they were toys. Brigon joined in, crashing into skyscrapers, listening to the sounds of the beams like tooth picks snapping in two, watching the humans flee in absolute terror, as the mess rained down on them like the sky had cracked open and let loose the building materials themselves.
Cars flipped over and caught a flame for seemingly no reason to the humans. Not that they noticed the flaming cars anyway. They were too busy running for their lives, screaming. Brigon soaked in the richness of their voices filling his mind with the taste of human soul. Then he thought of the bitterly sweet taste of Shinigami souls. He smirked before howling out.
All the screaming was making Sui and Kawaii lust for blood. Brigon shook his head in amusement as Sui roared at the humans. Kawaii took her liking to zigzagging through a forest of bamboo, ripping the weak trees that had no roots to hold themselves down from the Gillians powerful might and shooting cero from her tail to burn the trees to a crisp.
Sui left Brigon and Kawaii together shortly, having spotted a human to eat already, and followed him down the alley. Brigon grinned at her enthusiasm inwardly but continued on with Kawaii, looking for his own tasty morsel, as he heard the screams of the human’s soul. Such a delighted sound…he thought.
Once they [Brigon and Kawaii] passed a shrine, Kawaii trailed behind, disappearing up the stairs to the shrine, to find some monks, bolting quickly to the top. Brigon kept going as he heard the sounds of terrified people scattering, as he was sure one of the monks had fallen to the ground, now soulless.
Having been bored and not wanting to eat anything right then, Brigon jumped up and stood on the human’s sky above the cross walk. “Such lowly beings. A pure waste of space.” He shook his head in disgust, letting his senses roam, listening to the faint sounds of humans crying out in fear as they died slowly at the hands of the Gillian he had turned loose.
Ckriss, in the mean time, was enjoying his time on the beach, having been able to use his voice to scare the daylights out of the souls once they had been pulled from their bodies. He had managed to go through 2 humans, both of them having been love birds which he hated, already and had already spotted a weaker hollow he wished to devour.
Vanga, not being the smartest of the bunch, was found heading towards a ball of light in the sky. Maybe it is something small to eat, he thought, as his stomach rumbled. Vanga did not have an appetite for humans tonight, and preferred the richness of smaller hollows over humans.
In his small elephant form, Vanga approached the bright light that kept growing in size. When Vanga was a good 10 meters from it, he stopped and stared at the light. Suddenly it dimmed, and a Senkaimon materialized. Both doors slid open revealing 4 Shinigami, cloaked in black shihakushō. One lunged forward immediately striking Vanga diagonally down his hollow mask and bit by bit, Vanga became no more.
