New Idea for Tournament

so this idea just came up to me, that'll solve all this free passing given to users and just get lucky to reach the finals while others dont get that fair chance and get smacked at the first fight of the tournament by someone twice their Exp or watever.

Tournament based on points.
-you win , you get a point.
-you lose, you dont earn any point
-players with most points will advance through quarters/sermi finals.
-those with least points (wins) wont go through and are eliminated.
-------------------------

first we will start the tournament in preliminaries, ALL players on their division(rank tier) will fight eachother, NO FREE PASS given, then depending on the amount of players, those who collected most point by winning more advances through, you must obtain 3 points MINIMUM to advance past preliminaries (depending on amount of players ofcourse it might get changed to less than 3 points)

now to explain better Via example below:

7 ppl entered tournie for mixed Tier, division Rank 7.

Daichi, takeru ,dormammu, zerocool, muerte, painkiller, samuel.

its is an uneven number of players, with the older system it would mean one will get lucky and have a free pass, however with this system, they will all fight eachother.

dai vs dorm ,dai vs zero ,dai vs mue ,dai vs pain ,dai vs tak
dorm vs zero ,dorm vs mue ,dorm vs pain
ETC ETC..

so by the end of this preliminaries the result shows something like:
Dorm : 6 points
daichi: 5 points  
Tak: 5 point
zero: 4 points
mue: 2 points
sam: 1 point
pain: 0 point (sorry LOL xD)

Pain ,Sam and mue are eliminated cuz they had the least of points, while others will advance through as they qualified for quarter finals.

this is going to be a VERY long fight, so instead, i thought we can serve this idea as one of the ones below:

1- We remove the 2 of 3 best rounds, and just do one battle for each match. since it is only one battle now per match we can find more open times and availability, we can have a match at 14:00 and another at 14:15 and another at 14:30, more availability like i said.

2- Or this will only serve in preliminaries, after preliminaries are done, we go back to the old system for quarter and semi finals cuz we have acquired an Even amount of players that passed through and now no one gets free passes, sadly there is still a chance 2 players will DQ and we go back to uneven amount of players.

3- Or we can just go ahead and grant the players with most points acquired in their division their rightful place (example below:)

Dorm 6 points: first place
tak and daichi will fight 2 of 3 best rounds for second place since they got a tie of points, the loser gets third place.
and no need for more fights(quarters/semi final) since they already ALL fought eachother anyway.

now its more like, the more fights you win the more likely you will have a chance to get placements.
you wont get removed from tournie just cuz you lost one fight out of unfair match up or sheer bad luck.

DQs will count as a loss, or to punish them we can minus one point from them

I like this idea. It has much merit.

I would like to add a possible addition to it, after the preliminary points are given players can be then seeded, Ie. top two players will be on opposite side of draw table so as if they both win all there matches would fight each other in final. This would mean a more exciting final i believe.

It's a cool concept but i'd have to pass. Some of the best fights can happen first round and going to a one round fight would ruin some people's chances at moving onto the next round. This wouldn't do much to change things up with the OP player issues nor change the DQ issues. I say find a random name generator to set up the fights and require that every player  entering must devote 3 days at at least 12 hours free time for fight times or be DQ and excluded from the tourney. A simple change to fights and fight times to both weed out the no shows and speed up fights.

any small problems will only show during the tourney. Just be honest with the players and fix them next tourney

the thing is, scheduling so many fights is going to drag on the tournament. and to be honest, a tournament is usually about the best of the best near the end. in which case, the most fair route to get to that would be to seed people by Exp. of course, if we did that, everyone except the elite 3 of each rank would be hesitant to join.

the BEST route is to keep it as is and, instead of basing the Exp for the fights, as hitori did, make it 100% random.

I prefer oros idea on having each other fight everyone and points the only problem i might have is how long its dragged out for aura purposes unless staff and players are willing to hold early fights reason why this one went by fast compared to past tourneys

This is idea is great Oro. It is pretty much the same way MTG tourneys work. Known as Swiss or, Round Robin.
