Chapter 3 An Expectation to Uphold

“All Captains and Vice-Captains of the 13 Division Imperial Guards are to report to the Senkai immediately.” The hell butterfly fell silent, resting on the finger of the Division five’s Captain.
He smiled gently at the butterfly, before tossing his hand into the air, allowing it to fly back to the resting cages. His shihakusho and Haori fluttered a bit as the breeze rolled by.

He turned slowly to face the shinigami behind him. “Captain Itachi [Itachi], did you hear the announcement yet?” A Vice-Captain badge with the Division 5 emblem emblazoned upon it, just as it was upon Itachi's own back, is wrapped around the upper left arm of his shihakusho.

Itachi nods silently. I don’t enjoy being summoned to these meetings, he thought, inwardly sighing. Shrugging, he turned away from Famine [Famine], staring out at the courtyard, that Aizen had left him just 3 years before. By now, it had been spruced up a bit since then, but it still retained the empty absence of the traitor’s old ways.

Famine stepped up beside Itachi. “Shall we then? It did sound rather, urgent.”

“Yes. Let’s go. Before the other squads all arrive.” Itachi jumped down from the boardwalk, and behind him, Famine followed without hesitation. The two of them landed on their feet, Itachi with his hands in his shihakusho pockets.

Using Shunpo all the way to the Senkai was easy. Both Itachi and Famine were speed demons, but Itachi had to be. Aizen, the Captain before him, was the fastest Shunpo shinigami. So Itachi had a record for Division 5 to uphold.

Upon reaching the Senkai, Itachi and Famine found themselves the last to arrive, and quickly took their place among the other shinigami, that had already gathered. Tenkai, [Tenkai] Itachi observed, looks a lot more serious than normal.

The Captains and Vice-Captains alike went silent. Before them a Senkaimon opened, where 3 hell butterflies came out followed by 2 shinigami from 4th Division, and between them, a very baffled shinigami was carried.

The shinigami that was struggling to stay up, whispered 2 words. “Hollows... War...”
